4th Year Externships
CTVH has been providing veterinary students across the nation with hands on clinical experience in a rural mixed animal practice since 1997. CTVH provides the opportunity to learn from five clinicians and an experienced staff. The object of the student program is to provide a focused, high-level student experience, while operating in a rural mixed animal practice.
Housing is available.
Gain valuable hands on clinical experience in the following:

Summer Students
CTVH offers a highly competitive summer position to veterinary students that have completed their second year. The summer positions entails exposure and hands on involvement in all areas of a rural mixed animal practice including management, large and small animal medicine and surgery, emergency care and simply life in a small town. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary student to experience what a rural practice is all about and to be challenged clinically and academically. CTVH provides housing and a hourly wage. The student is also allowed a week in the summer to visit referral centers across Texas with all expenses paid by CTVH. The Texas Veterinary Medical Association offers a program to high school students to earn certification as a Veterinary Assistant. Cross Timbers has been fortunate to partner with the Bowie High School Agricultural Sciences Department for the past few years to help several students achieve this goal. Students receive 200 instructional hours at the school, and then volunteer for 300 hours at a veterinary clinic. The students must also show themselves competent in a four page skills checklist and are then eligible to sit for a written exam. Students can then go on to acquire a job as a Veterinary Assistant or jump-start their career as a Veterinarian while attending college.
